Desperately Seeking New Mix Tape

What do you think of while you're running/walking?

Here's my stream of consciousness, set to my May 2006 workout playlist, which I have heard oh, ONE TOO MANY times now.  Feel free to borrow this stream of consciousness, and just let me know if you need me to burn you a copy of the soundtrack to accompany it.  (Or skip this part and cut to my request for help/ultimatum at the end of this post if you'd rather.)

1) SOS (Rihanna):   Here we go! I am awesome.  I am out here doing this.  I love Tainted Love. Ugh.  Please let the next stoplight be red.  This feels remarkably sucky even though I've only been moving for two minutes.
2) The Cup of Life (Ricky Martin):  El mundo esta de pie!  When is the next World Cup? Ricky Martin can make anyone run faster.  No one should make fun because I'm sorry but this song actually is kind of great.  Poor Ricky.
3) Let's Get Loud (Jennifer Lopez):  I think I have a cramp.  What was my original workout plan again?  I should probably cut that short.
4) Where the Party At (Jagged Edge & Nelly):  No!  Keep going.  Nelly.  Mmm...St. Louis.  Should I walk?  Where is the next stoplight?  God, please let it be red.
5) Song 2 (Blur):  Woo-hoo!  Woo-hoo!
6) La Tortura (Shakira & Alejandro Sanz):  Struggling to make out lyrics in Spanish...wish my Spanish weren't so rusty...wish I were Shakira...keep going, keep going...
7) Lyla (Oasis):  Yes! I'm on the home stretch!  (Arm outstretched ringing imaginary bell.) "Heaven help my mademoiselle, she rings the bell for all the world to hear."
8) Ain't No Easy Way (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club):  There ain't no easy way out of this workout.  (Punching air like a boxer in training while running down the street, ala Rocky.)  Gee, what major athletic event can I sign up for?  Could I realistically do an Olympic distance triathlon this year?  Sure, no problem.  I have no time constraints.  I bet I could run a marathon this year if I tried.  Totally plausible, fantastic idea.
9) Desire (U2):  I desire to be done with this workout.  De-si-i-i-i-i-ire.  Yeah, I'm feeling it.  I'm digging deep.  This song is about heroin or something, right? Can't wait to go tell Joe about the crazy long race I'm going to sign up for.  He should sign up, too.

I've never developed a love for running but nothing beats it in terms of efficiency.  Low cost, and you can be out the door doing it in three minutes.  My goal was to run every other day this month. Today is the 19th, and I've gone 5 times.  Some might say I'm failing big time, but I am thrilled with these results.  This to me is a case of "if something is worth doing, it's worth doing badly!"  I mean that both with respect to the number of times I go, and what I'm doing while I'm out there.  "Running" is perhaps using the term loosely.  The speed, distance, and time spent is not great, but I always feel so proud of myself just for strapping on the shoes and going.

The point of all this is:  I need a new workout playlist.  This is painfully obvious from the above.  I'm asking you, dear readers, for suggestions, and I'm not posting here again until I've gotten at least enough to make a decent mix.  I require only that they be fast-paced, and good for working out.  As you can see from my current mix, I have no shame and fully recognize that there is some music that qualifies as "good music for working out" that may not qualify as "good music."  That's okay with me.

I'll publish the final playlist once created and would be happy to burn a copy for anybody who gives me at least one suggestion that makes the cut.

Thanks!  Now get thinking!

Very proud of you!! Good work!

So when I did run last year (looong time ago) I would start with Jai Ho. It's the song from slumdog millionaire. I LOVED it. Got me really pumped.

Kid Cudi's Poker Face - it's hilarious (albiet somewhat...ok totally dirty) but it makes me happy.

also the MIA song makes me feel kind of bad ass. the one with the BANG BANG BANG (paper planes maybe?)

First of all, way to go getting out there and running!!!

Here are a couple of songs for ya:

4 minutes by Madonna and Justin Timberlake - love that song

In The End by Linkin Park. This was on my work out mix several years ago, but it still makes me want to get up and move.

David Guetta's Love is Gone helped me on a 1 mile uphill battle I had with, well, a hill going up, in a 5K I did last year.

Juanes: La Camisa Negra

Britney Spears: Womanizer and If You Seek Amy. I feel I must defend my decision to include Brintey, but I just love her stuff for getting pumped and excited. She actually has a techno album that came out during her crazy period when she wasn't recording anything. I can send you a copy if you wish for the same reason - good beats for a work out.

Gloria Estefan: Mi Tierra. Slower than maybe you will want but a great pick me up nonetheless.

Ricky Martin: Jaleo

Black Eyed Peas: anything from their latest album.

I know there are some good songs on Top 40 radio that is fun and great for exercising and getting you ready to work out/pumped. To me it's more about the music rather than the lyrics (Hello Britney) so not sure if they would be of interest to you. Sadly, my iTunes isn't working at the moment since I still need to download it to my new laptop. I'll continue to search for the songs though.

Lady Gaga and Beyone's "Telephone"
Jason DeRulo's "In my Head," Riding Solo," and What'd ya say."
Matchbox 20: "How Far We've Come"
Adam Lambert: "Whaddya want from me?" (I know, I know. But it's good.)
Britney Spears: "Circus," "Womanizer" and "Piece of Me"
Seal: "Crazy"
Rolling Stones: "Gimme Shelter"
Pink" "So What?"

I'm going to go a little old school here, and say that Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" is fabulous, as is Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World."

I'd love to help out, but my playlist hails from 2003. I'm planning on selfishly ripping off the suggestions here.

I call my mix "Workin' It" and it desperately needs updating too. So maybe we swap some of them:

Gwen Stefani - What you waiting for?
Christina Aguilera - Dirrty (there's a part about throwing elbows that reminds me of kickboxing class with Beth & Crystal)
Christina Aguilera again - Lady Marmalade (oh make fun, until you are singing along)
Eminem - Lose Yourself (You only get 1 shot...)
Bad Religion - Los Angeles is Burning (its a little ska sounding, hilarious lyrics and the beat is so fast you can't go slow)
Missy Elliot - Work it!

And I second Pink's So What
