Apparently, I have been living under a rock.
As of yesterday afternoon, I was completely unaware of what headlines have since been telling me is "a case that captivated America for years." (But I was here. In America. For all those years!) And I do mean completely unaware. I would've had zero word association with the name "Casey Anthony" had you asked me about it as of noon yesterday. (I would now answer this with, "not guilty," "people seem to be outraged," and, "someone's baby was apparently killed or otherwise died." I do not mean to appear insensitive, but that is as much as I have gathered.)
Am I truly the only one? Is this bad?
I blame my children. I'm a bad citizen of the world, and totally out of touch with a lot of pop culture. All I can hope is that maternity leave gives me a chance to catch up on the rest of the Twilight books and movies. (When exactly that's supposed to be squeezed in the nursing / driving / minding / cooking / yelling / playing schedule, though, I'm not exactly sure.) We won't even get into the fact that I've never read or seen a Harry Potter. Also, I blame Joe. Futurama is at least part of the reason that I've never seen any Real Housewives. Also, I blame my job. You made me miss a lot of Glee.
Getting loopy from working too much lately. So leave me a comment and tell me something funny or interesting. Or berate me for not knowing Casey Anthony. Or de-lurk yourself or whatever. I need some motivation to make it over the finish line here, and the vending machine has so lost its luster. Ugh.

I am delurking. I don't have anything funny to say except I will report that Caris is losing her edge: at the pediatrician's today she weighed 20 lb. 15 oz. which puts her only in the 98th percentile, when she used to be in the 99th. I am wondering if she'll suddenly stop growing at some point soon or if my baby is going to be bigger than me by age 2. I blame Clayton.
You're not the only one! I probably knew a little more of Casey Anthony than you, but not by much. I had no idea there was any kind of a verdict coming up and was shocked that EVERYone but me was captivated by the news yesterday. I honestly felt like I had missed out on something.
You should also check out the Hunger Games series while you're on maternity leave...with all that extra time you'll have. I just finished the 2nd book and am loving it (more than I loved Twilight, but I didn't love Twilight like most seem too and never even got around to reading the 4th book).
I did know about Casey Anthony, but it's my job to know the news. BUT I am so happy that you included yelling in your list of things that must be done, bc I see your girls sometimes and they're so well behaved! And I think my kids just drive me to yell...and again, I think kids are at their worst for their parents, right? RIGHT?
Also, I've purposely blocked out all Harry Potter to save it to experience with my Harry once he's interested. We tried to read the first page of the first book last month and he was not into it.So it may be a few years, but we can all go through that together!
Um, you need to dust the cobwebs out of your brain and realize that the phrase "maternity leave gives me a chance to catch up on..." should never be uttered1 It only leaves you feeling stressed and unproductive on maternity leave! Most people are happy if they can get an occasional shower and some birth announcements sent. Maternity leave might give you a chance to watch some Real Housewives if you Tivo it. That should be the end of your list. You are less from 2 weeks from starting your leave. You can do it! Just think of it like a 5 mile run - and you are at the 4 1/2 mile point. It's hard, and it hurts, but the end is in sight! Yay!
I had no idea. I think it was a Fox News phenom.
Better get a netflix subscription before maternity leave. You can watch a season's worth of shows in a few hours!
ahhh - too funny - we just cancelled Netflix yesterday b/c we've been so bad about finding time to watch anything! Figure we'll re-sign-up again sometime, but until then I had better stop wasting $16/month.
Kate, I hope that Nancy Grace does not read your blog.
Susan-Bobby loves Hunger Games too :)
I am loving your blog! Love your honesty. I guess motherhood brings out our best and our worst. The true secret is learning how to get our kids to remember the best so we don't all end up in nursing homes!
