Mahna Mahna (Halloween 2012)

We are big fans of the 2011 Muppet movie.  (Surely Waylon eventually will be, too.)  Our girls are still at an age where repetition beats novelty when it comes to shows, so while they haven't seen tons of movies, they've watched this one several times, making it the film of the year at our house.  Thus, when Georgia and June started discussing dressing as Muppets for Halloween all the way back in the spring, I jumped at the chance to go with coordinated family costumes.  Who knows?  This could be our only year to do it.  Plus, we already had a Kermit suit that Georgia wore a few years back.

I will let the pictures do most of the talking here, but to sum up our Halloween experience, I think one of my favorite bloggers, Rebecca Woolf, really said it best, "Sure, it was a pain in the ass to get out the door, but once we made it? Magic."

Oh, man. I wish I had this next part on video. Watch the sequence of the next two photographs and you will see how poor little Junie went from happily selecting a piece of candy to being caught in a throng of people, totally enveloped in the black cape of a six foot four Darth Vader. Joe and I were standing all the way back by the street and could basically see this unfolding in slow motion, powerless to do anything about it. I'm sorry - it made me chuckle even though I knew it would scare her. A few tears later, Joe readjusted her Kermit hat and all was well. (Seriously, though, Darth? You can't look out for three year olds?) DSC_0039 DSC_0040
(See that little bit of green sticking out the side of Darth? That's right before June was sucked into the black hole that was his cape.)

I knew our costumes were a hit when some passersby on a street already crowded with trick-or-treat'ers stopped and asked to take our picture!

The girls got a little frightened to go up through the crowds of people to the houses on their own. Gee, I can't imagine why?

Our neighbors.

Can you believe it? We found another Beaker! Tried to get a picture of our Beaker with him, but my rubber mask prevented me from realizing that Waylon never faced the camera. DSC_0051 IMG_1652 Beaker, er, I mean Waylon, on the go IMG_1650

Getting darker. All of these photos make it look like we lasted for hours. In reality, we lasted for about 3 long blocks of the boulevard.

Every year the crowds amaze me.

Our crew is reaching meltdown stage. Dinner must be had, pronto. IMG_1640 IMG_1635

Back at home, all is well. I took on the role of old lady yelling at teenagers attempting to help themselves to armfuls of candy at a time. Scram! Jack o lanterns
(Georgia decided her jack-o-lantern should have glasses.  June, of course, chose the only yellow pumpkin in the patch lot.)

I think I may have just ruined our 2012 Christmas card by showing you these pictures.  So, since I have no restraint or editing power, how about a few more from a party the Saturday before?
